The N Vision 74 was developed to demonstrate that it's possible to build a high-performance vehicle using hydrogen fuel cell technology. With its name and iconic design, the N Vision celebrates the Hyundai Pony Coupe 1974, a car that never made it to the production stage.
Read on and discover with your Hyundai dealership this new creation from the Korean manufacturer. We'll share with you everything you need to know about the N Vision 74, whether about the performance, design or hydrogen cells and including any information we have on the car's availability.
The N Vision 74 is a laboratory project (rolling lab) designed by the automobile manufacturer to show its new technologies in action. It combines several technologies already available or soon to be available to demonstrate what Hyundai is capable of.
This car is powered by a hybrid powertrain that pairs a hydrogen fuel cell with a 62.4 kWh battery. The combination of these two components adds up to a spectacular performance:
Engine | Maximum Power | 671 horsepower |
Engine Torque | 664 lb.-ft. | |
Battery | Capacity | 62.4 kWh 800 volts fast charging |
To cite The Car Guide, this kind of power makes of the N Vision
« A very capable track beast. »
Indeed, the N Vision 74's powertrain allows the car to provide such stunning performance as:
A maximum speed of 250 km/h
A 600 km range
Since heat management is often a problem for electric vehicles, the cooling systems for the battery, hydrogen fuel cell and electric motors are all independent from each other.
This layout enables each component to obtain the cooling it needs without affecting the proper functioning of the rest of the system.
Finally, in terms of dimensions, the N Vision is 4,915 mm long, 2,023 mm wide and 1,479 mm high. It stands on a 2,950 mm wheelbase. The dimensions complement well its seductive looks.
It's not only its name that the N Vision borrows from the 1974 Pony Coupe. Indeed, Hyundai's new project pays an homage to the Pony Coupe in large part through its aesthetics.
The N Vision 74's design is based to a significant extent on the concept of the 1974 Pony Coupe, which was developed back in the day by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the legendary car designer. Among the characteristics that the N Vision 74 borrows from its forebear, we find:
A dynamic profile, which fits just as much on the racetrack as on the road.
Simple surfaces that are truly eye-catching to those who appreciate retro cars.
An iconic and unique central pillar.
In short, the Hyundai N Vision 74 offers a more retro look than many electric vehicles currently on the market; as such, it's sure to make some people happy.
That being said, this is not to say that the N Vision 74 looks like an old car. Rest assured that the retro elements go well with the modern design. The overall look could be said to be slightly futuristic.
For now, it seems unlikely in the short and medium term that Hyundai Canada or any other manufacturer will sell vehicles running on hydrogen here.
Though the N Vision 74 handsomely demonstrates the viability of this alternative solution, there's simply not enough service station in Canada able to resupply this type of vehicle.
However, what with the resounding technical success that the N Vision 74 represents, it's very possible that hydrogen cells will eventually become a more interesting choice. Maybe you'll see the day when the service station at your street corner will be offering hydrogen as the main type of fuel.
Hyundai has not shared any details on a release date for the N Vision, since this model has not reached the production stage yet.
Since we don't have a release date, we also don't have any information on the Hyundai N Vision 74 price.
However, even if this model never makes it to dealerships, it's always interesting to see what manufacturers like Hyundai can achieve with the technology of today and tomorrow.
