The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 officially made its debut when the automotive press took it for a test drive in California in early December. The moment was eagerly awaited, as it has been known for nearly two years that the company has been preparing a new sub-brand dedicated to electric vehicles, the Ioniq.
Hyundai Lanaudière, your dealership and garage in Joliette near Repentigny, Mascouche and Terrebonne, invites you to find your next new Hyundai vehicle or used model. Now, here are the secrets of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is making its first steps.
The new Ioniq 5 benefits from a new platform dedicated to everything that will be electric at Hyundai, the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). This platform is designed to accommodate the design of an electric vehicle, which is reflected in the interior layout, but also in the driving experience thanks to a very low centre of gravity.
The electric world that awaits us will allow stylists to offer us new kinds of models, and rightfully so. This Ioniq 5 is hyper modern. Ironically, it features lines that we’ve seen in the past, notably from Lancia with its Delta. In fact, it’s presented as an SUV, but it’s actually a hatchback that’s coming to us, with the option of an all-wheel drive. There’s no doubt about it, there’s nothing like an Ioniq 5 on the market, which is a credit to the designers.
On board, the work of the designers must be highlighted. The presentation is as modern as can be, dominated by two 12.3-inch screens that provide everything needed to keep us informed about the vehicle’s behaviour, as well as access to its various features.
What’s more, the fact that the wheels are positioned at the ends of the vehicle makes it feel like you’re in a higher class model with more than enough space. In the back seat, for example, it will be possible to install three extra seats. In addition, the flat floors in both the front and rear seats add to the impression of spaciousness you get inside. You can breathe in a Hyundai Ioniq 5!
One of the strengths of the Ioniq 5 is the way it’s available. Let’s just say that there’s something for everyone.
First, there’s the Essential model with a 58 kWh battery: 168 horsepower and 354 kilometres of range. The Preferred version, which follows in the lineup, will offer the same capabilities, but with a little more equipment, such as a heated steering wheel, and above all, a fast charging capacity of 350 kW. In this respect, the Ioniq 5 has proven itself to be one of the fastest in terms of energy recovery.
Another Preferred version is available, this time with a 77.4 kWh battery. The latter increases the range to 480 kilometres, which is really impressive with 225 horsepower. This is starting to look very attractive.
Next, we move on to the series that offers all-wheel drive thanks to two electric motors (74 kW at the front, 165 kW at the rear). The power increases to 321 horsepower, but the range drops to 414 km; a lesser evil to take advantage of the all-wheel drive. This variant is always offered with the Preferred trim level. A more upscale trim level that takes advantage of this mechanical configuration will also be on the menu, the Ultimate.
Finally, the reaction is unanimous from all those who have tested the model. The ride is solid and convincing, and the cabin offers all the luxury you could wish for, along with excellent soundproofing. When buying or leasing a car in Lanaudière, trust Hyundai Lanaudière.
